Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Networks (GMEC SCNs) was established in April 2016 to provide clinical leadership and advice to improve health and care services in the region. Part of the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, we are a non-statutory body with offices in Manchester and are hosted by the Greater Manchester Area Team.

GMEC SCNs is one of 12 SCN’s established in England. We work in partnership with commissioners (including local government) to support their decision making and strategic planning. Working across the boundaries of commissioner, provider, and voluntary organisations we bring about the realisation of improvements in the quality and equity of care, reduction in unwarranted variation in care, and improve health outcomes for our patient population.

Led by a Clinical Director and supported by an Associate Director, with strong involvement from patients, carers and members of the public, we connect commissioners, providers, professionals, and patients and the public across condition/disease pathways of care to share best practice and innovation, measure and benchmark quality and outcomes, and drive improvement.

We focus on ten condition/disease areas of national and local priority including cardiovascular, maternity,  perinatal mental health, children and young people, mental health, dementia, diabetes, cancer, respiratory and palliative and end of life care services: providing strategic direction, enabling clinical leadership, and bringing the voice of service users, carers and the public to shape evidence based pathways and models of integrated care.
